Biography

Dr. Cosimbescu is an experienced research scientist, with extensive knowledge of organic chemistry and synthetic methodology complemented by a strong background in material science. Accomplishments for the past 12 years include a proven track record of innovation, product development and project management in various areas, such as display electronics (OLEDs and liquid crystals), fuel lubricants/additives and biomaterials for drug delivery. Successful leader of cross-functional teams and of complex projects through the process of development and commercialization of several new products invented. Dr. Cosimbescu is currently a Senior Research Scientist in the Materials Chemistry and Surface Research Group in the Energy and Efficiency Division at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. She joined PNNL in 2008.

Research Interests

  • Dr. Cosimbescu's research interests include functional molecules that can self assemble or participate in molecular recognition events, manipulation of a variety of chemistries for efficient scale-up processes, exploration of the use of hydrogel-like materials for non-biomedical applications to exploit their phase changing properties, phase changing materials, design and development of organic electrolytes for hybrid battery systems, functionalization of nanomaterials for sensing and nanoporous and mesoporous materials and applications.
