Friction Stir Processing – Open Positions

Friction Stir Processing Researcher (Level 2) This person will develop high-performance materials and processing approaches using our suite of friction stir processing methods. We're looking for someone with hands-on experience in friction stir processing of metals and a good grasp of physical metallurgy.
Preferred qualification: PhD with 2 yrs industrial or research experience.

Thermomechanical Processing Researcher (Level 2) These positions are similar to the two above but will primarily work on the ShAPE™ machine. We're looking for someone with hands-on experience in high-shear, high strain-rate solid phase processing approaches or in conventional extrusion, forging, and thermomechanical processes, preferably in high-strength steels and/or aluminum alloys.
Preferred qualification: PhD with 2 years of experience or MS/MA with 4 years of experience,

Cold Spray Mechanical Engineer (Level 2) We need two people to help us with our Cold Spray work:
  1. A builder to help commission and operate our new system, and
  2. A metallurgist to investigate the relationship between the resulting alloy composition, processing, microstructure, and material properties.
Preferred qualification: PhD with 2 yrs hands-on experience in thermal or cold spray techniques, extrusion, forging, or other thermomechanical processing for metallic alloys.
